Workwear For Pubs, Cafés And Restaurants: What To Put Your Team In

Kitchen, bar and front of house: what to wear, what it costs, and how to get your logo on it.

⏱ 48-Hour Turnaround 🧵 Logos Done In-House 🚚 + Postage & Packaging

In a pub, café or restaurant, your team is the first thing customers see. Kitting them out doesn't need to be complicated: a polo or shirt, an apron, and a chef's jacket for the kitchen cover most of what a hospitality venue needs.

Here's how we'd dress each part of the venue, what it costs, and how to get your logo on it. Everything below is on our hospitality page, where you can pick colours and see prices.

The Kitchen: Chef's Jackets And Aprons

Our chef's jackets are a 170gsm polyester-cotton twill, in black or white, with short or long sleeves, in sizes XS to 5XL. You'll find them, along with the rest of the range, in Chefswear.

Aprons come in two styles. The plain apron has no pocket and is made from 240gsm organic cotton, in 20 colours. The mid-length pocket apron is a heavier 195gsm polyester-cotton mix, in black, black denim, dark grey, indigo denim, navy and sage. Both are in Aprons & Tunics.

A word on hygiene. The Food Standards Agency's guidance for caterers says all staff should wear clean clothes when working with food. It also suggests a clean apron over work clothes, changed after handling raw meat, poultry, eggs or unwashed vegetables, and notes that light colours and no outside pockets are preferred for food preparation. In practice, that means a spare set of kit per person is worth having, and the plain apron suits the kitchen while the pocket apron suits the bar and floor.

Front Of House And The Bar

For floor and bar staff, a polo is hard to beat. Our workwear polo is a 220gsm cotton-polyester pique in black, bottle green or navy. For a smarter look, there are short-sleeve shirts in a wide range of colours, and golf polos for hotels and higher-end venues. A sweatshirt covers cooler days, and a beanie finishes the look for outdoor and terrace staff.

Three Ready-Made Hospitality Kits

If you'd rather not pick item by item, we've put together three kits using the same garments. Prices include a vinyl logo on the front of every item, and you choose colours and sizes when you order.

Front of House Kit: 3 shirts and 2 pocket aprons for £83.92 (£75.52 with a trade account).

Pub & Bar Team Kit: 3 polos, 2 pocket aprons and a sweatshirt for £97.07 (£87.36 with a trade account).

Coffee Shop & Café Kit: 3 polos, 2 T-shirts and 3 pocket aprons for £117.21 (£105.49 with a trade account).

Embroidered Or Printed?

For a logo on the chest of a polo, shirt or chef's jacket, we usually recommend embroidery, because it looks smart and copes well with regular washing. Vinyl suits a bold name or slogan, and keeps costs down on bigger designs. Our guide to embroidery, vinyl or DTF explains the difference, and if you send us your logo, we'll tell you which suits it best. Hospitality kit gets washed often, so our washing and care guide is worth a read too.

Questions

What should pub and restaurant staff wear?

Most venues settle on a simple mix: chef's jackets and aprons for the kitchen, and polos or shirts with a pocket apron for the bar and floor. A sweatshirt covers cooler days. We can put your logo on all of it.

Can you embroider or print my logo on aprons and chef's jackets?

Yes. We embroider or print your logo onto chef's whites, aprons, tunics, polos and shirts, all done in-house. Tell us where you'd like the logo and we'll suggest the method that suits your design.

Do the ready-made hospitality kits include my logo?

Yes, the prices shown include a vinyl logo on the front of every item. If you would rather have embroidery, a back print or a different mix of items, tell us what you need and we will quote it.

Do you take small orders for a new cafe?

Yes. There is no minimum order, no set-up fee and no charge for digitising your logo. Volume discounts then apply automatically: 5% off from 10 items, 10% off from 25 and 15% off from 50.

What do food hygiene rules say about work clothes?

Food Standards Agency guidance says all staff should wear clean clothes when working with food, and recommends a clean apron over work clothes that is changed after handling raw food. Having a spare set per person makes that easy. Check with your local environmental health team if you are unsure what applies to your venue.

Can I reorder matching kit when someone new starts?

Yes. We keep your digitised logo and artwork on file free of charge, so matching kit for a new starter is quick to arrange. Most jobs are ready in 48 hours.
